Yellow Sapphire and Alexandrite Pendant

       For this commission the customer wanted a plain setting to showcase the beautiful, natural yellow sapphire face up. They also wanted to included two Alexandrites to compliment the Sapphire, but they wanted them tucked away. Keep it plain and simple.

       I handmade the entire setting for this pendant from half-round gold and platinum wire. There was no other way--the gemstone was too large, the cushion cut too deep for any manufactured settings. For the sapphire, I created a 18K yellow gold, four-prong setting with a V grove. The gold complements the deep, primary yellow of the sapphire.  The Alexandrites  are tucked in trillian-shaped,  platinum manufactured settings to mimic the V. The bale is crafted from platinum, as well as cross bars between the two upper and two lower prongs to strengthen the setting and secure that fantastic sapphire.
